Celebrations: Our SMARTboards are mounted and working!  We are using them daily in a variety of subject areas.  We are also becoming more savy with the document cameras.  A celebration is seeing the student engagement and participation increase daily!

Challenges: Access to more computers that have software we are learning (i.e. Pixie and Frames) is still a challenge.

Next Steps: Our goal is to teach our Geometry unit first thing in the fall of 2010.  We need to complete the assessment section by designing a rubric for the culminating activity.

Using the digital camera for interpretation of shapes to support a school structure is a great idea. Your students will love this. Your geometry unit is off to a great start.

Your assessment critera is excellent. Seems like oyu are hitting on several important "facets" :o) I am looking forward to seeing where this goes and of course using it with my 4th graders as will (I hope!) :o)

There are an abundance of Smartboard lessons that will tie perfectly into your unit!

Your unit lends itself to both paper and pencil as well as use of technology. Your skill are very specific! Good Job!

I'm excited to see this unit unfold! I love the connetion to "real world" ie architecture!

I like the final assessment. I think it clearly reflects the standard

Your big understanding has a real-world application which will help the students connect abstract philosophies.
By breaking pictures/structures they are familiar with into individual geometrical components, the students can recognize geometry around them.
We love the use of digital cameras and software to break structures into their geometric parts.

Have you thought about how to link in with the art teacher?
What do you think about using technology to communicate with architects who can share their application of geometry and technology?
Would it be helpful to use presentation software to superimpose geometric shapes onto digital images, or reversing that to create images from a compilation of geometric shapes?

Wow - what a great unit. I love your final project/assessment idea. A very thorough backwards designed unit. I am curious and would love to learn more about the software you'll be using for the digital version of the schematic.
